Transfer Equivalency Self Service (TESS)

We are pleased that you are considering transferring credits to the University of Scranton.

The Transfer Equivalency Self-Service (TESS) is a tool designed to help prospective first year, transfer and currently enrolled students determine how their credits may be accepted and how those credits may apply toward a specific program of study.

TESS is easy to use:

  • Create an account so that you may save your program and classes for future use.
  • Select your entering semester/term and an intended degree program.
  • Select a transfer school and the classes you’ve taken at the transfer school.
  • Enter the credit hours, grade, and credit type for each class.
  • Select “I’m all done!” to see the course equivalencies and degree audit.

Getting Started

Create an account – Use this option to create a login (email address and password). A login allows you to save your intended program and transfer classes, then log into TESS later to revise your program or add more classes without having to reenter everything.

Continue without signing in – You can begin to use TESS even without creating an account or signing in. Use this option to get started right away. NOTE: You will not be able to save any of your work from the session without a login.

Have an account? Log in – If you already have login credentials, select this option and enter the email address and password you initially used to create the login

Navigation

At the top of each page, blue numbered steps mark your progress through the workflow. Instead of using your web browser’s back tab, click a previous number to return to an earlier section.

 Basics Icon

  • In the Basics section you’ll specify your degree goal by using the drop-down lists to select your intended enrollment term, degree program, level (undergraduate), degree type and major. The degree audit is produced using your selected criteria.

 Transfer Icon

  • In the Transfer section you can enter any transfer classes you’ve completed/will complete (select the Class button) and/or standardized exams you’ve completed, such as Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) (select the Exam button).

Selecting Transfer Classes:

In the search box, enter a name of a transfer institution or the city where it is located. The list of schools will be filtered as you begin typing; when you see the school, click the name to select it.  If the school does not appear, no evaluations exist yet for that institution.

The list of classes offered at that school is displayed, sorted by subject and course number. Use the search box to filter the course list, then click a course to select it. On the Class Information screen, select “Transfer term”, number of credits, grade received/expected, and the type of credit. Check the box beside “Add another class from this school” to select additional classes from the same institution. When you’ve selected all courses from the institution, either uncheck the “Add another class from this school” button and select Proceed, or close the Class Information window by clicking the “X” at the top right. Then select “I’m done”.

If you cannot find a listing for a course you have taken that means that particular course has not been evaluated.

 Results Icon

  • In the Results section you will see a degree audit for the program you selected in the Basics section and the course equivalencies for the classes and exams you selected in the Transfer section.

Degree Audit Report

The first part of the results page is a degree audit report. Sections within the degree audit (degree, EP, general education, major, cognate, and electives) detail the requirements for that program.

The audit shows how the classes and exams you entered in the Transfer section will apply toward your intended program of study. It will also display the coursework still needed to complete that program. A green check mark green_checkmark.jpg  indicates a completed requirement. An open red box open_red_box.jpg denotes a requirement that has still not been met. A blue single tilde blue_tilde.png indicates a requirement that is nearing completion. A @ in the course ID is used as a wildcard.

'No mapping found' on the results page means we do not yet have an equivalency for that course entry in our database. This result does not mean you will not receive credit for the course if you transfer; rather, we will need to evaluate the course for credit after your are admitted. Please contact an admissions counselor for more information.

To view additional information about a particular course on the degree audit, click on the course which is highlighted to open an information window. Details may include the course description, any pre-requisites, and sections offered in upcoming terms.

Course Equivalencies

Transfer coursework will be applied throughout the degree audit, where applicable. A summary of the transfer course equivalencies is also shown at the bottom of the degree audit.

If a transfer class has been articulated successfully and there is an equivalent class or elective credit, a green arrow green_arrow.jpgis displayed next to the class. A single transfer class may articulate as more than one class. Likewise, more than one transfer class (ex: lecture and lab) may articulate as a single course. In both cases, all equivalent course IDs and titles are shown.

Note: Only classes that are articulated successfully are included in the degree audit.
