Our Strategic Plan Goals
The University of Scranton presents this Strategic Plan to guide our community in meeting the challenges of today and navigating those that lie ahead.
As a Catholic and Jesuit university, just as the Jesuits have for centuries, we forge ahead with readiness to embrace challenge, change, and seek innovations as we educate student leaders in the Jesuit tradition, energize the growth & renewal of our institution, and contribute to the common good. Grounded in our mission, the Plan outlines concrete steps to support critical reflection on current practices, foster innovation, and ensure the University’s sustainability, viability and vitality, in pursuit of an ambitious vision for the future.
Our Mission: The University of Scranton is a Catholic and Jesuit university animated by the spiritual vision of Saint Ignatius Loyola, a tradition of excellence, and a commitment to the common good. The University is a community dedicated to the formation of students, and to the freedom of inquiry and personal development fundamental to the growth in wisdom and integrity of all who share its life.
Our Vision: We will lead confidently into the future - extending our reach, increasing our impact, and preparing graduates to lead and excel. We will ignite within our students and community a shared dedication to the ideals of Catholic and Jesuit education.
About The Plan
The Strategic Plan is constructed around four specific goals: renewing our enrollment strategy; driving innovative educational and co-curricular programming; expanding collaborative efforts to support all students and their success; and making organizational improvements that support these aims and the sustainability and strength of our University. Each goal will be accomplished through concrete objectives explored via multi-level planning and initiatives across our University’s departments, colleges, and organizational areas. Through approaches guided by the Jesuit values of cura personalis (care of each individual & our campus community) and cura apostolica (care of our institution & its resources), we will collaboratively pursue these four aims to achieve our vision.

The Plan was constructed under the leadership of the representative University Planning Committee, whose careful analysis, reflection, and discernment was informed at each stage by campus-wide community input from our students, faculty, staff, and Trustees.
Within each of the four strategic goals, a series of supporting objectives and more detailed outcomes have been defined. Members of the University community can access these through the Strategic Plan 2030 SharePoint Resource Site.
The Plan will be implemented through our integrated planning and institutional effectiveness model, with avenues for all areas of the University to directly explore & support the plan's goals and objectives in ways that are directly relevant and meaningful to them.
