Fulbright Language Teaching Assistants and International Instructors 2024-2025
Meet our 2024-2025 Fulbright and International Instructors:
Fabián Bizcocho Reina - Spain (Spanish)
¡Hola a todos! I'm Fabián, the Spanish teacher for the upcoming year. I'm from Spain and I was born in the city of Seville, located in the South of Spain and the capital of the region of Andalusia. I took a major in Translation and Interpreting, where I could learn many interesting languages such as Chinese, Japanese or German. I took a year abroad in the National Taiwan University to improve my Chinese and some years after graduation I took a Masters in Teaching English and Spanish as Foreign Languages, since languages were my devotion. The culture in my country is probably very different from what you're probably exposed to (countries from South America), so I'm sure you will be able to discover lots of interesting stuff in my classes. In regard to my hobbies, I love videogames, swimming, taking long walks and listening to Pop Music. ¡Nos vemos por aquí! Un saludo a todos, Fabián Bizcocho Reina.
Rym Ben Rhouma - Tunisia (Arabic)
Hello everyone ! My name is Rym Ben Rehouma and I am from Tunis, Tunisia. I am honored to be the Arabic FLTA for this year (Foreign Language Teaching Assistant). My Tunisia is a north African-Mediterranean country famous for its couscous, harissa, olives and olive oil. It is also home to the world's first officiallyrecognized university, University Ez-Zitouna. Even though it is a small country, Tunisian culture is highly rich and diverse (influenced by Carthaginian, Roman, Arab, Jewish, Christian, French and Turkish cultures). I am an English teacher and a teacher trainer. My major was English/American literature and civilization, as I graduated from École Normale Supérieure (ENS) in Tunis. Aside from my interest in the American culture, I like reading, working out, and travelling. I am very excited to share my culture with my students and everyone here at Scranton, and I am equally eager to meet new people and learn about different cultures.
Erii Unuma - Japan (Japanese)
Hi, こんにちは! I'm Erii Unuma. I'm from Nagoya, Japan. Do you know where Nagoya is? It's between Tokyo and Osaka, located in the middle of Japan. It's the 4th biggest city in Japan. After I graduated from university, I worked for 3 years in Nagoya, and then I went to Vietnam to start my teaching job. I've been teaching Japanese there for 2 years. I like yoga, bouldering, cats, and eating. I've been to 13 countries but never been to Europe, so I want to go there sometime! Of course, I want to travel all over the US as well. Please let me know your favorite places or good places to travel in the US! I am looking forward to meeting you all! Let's study Japanese!
Oliwia Doroszko - Germany (German)
Hallo or better yet Moin! My name is Oliwia, and I will be teaching German at the University of Scranton
for the academic year 2024/25. In Germany I tend to use 'Moin' rather than 'Hallo' to greet somebody as I was raised and lived in a town in SchleswigHolstein in the very north of Germany. It even takes me less then 40 minutes to drive to the beach. I did my bachelors and masters in Kiel, which we call the sailing city, with a focus on English, French and Education. During my bachelor's I was given the opportunity to do an internship in Bluffdale, Utah and knew from that moment that I wanted to come back and teach some more. Especially after gaining more methodological and technological expertise while working at an edtech startup for the past 1.5 years. Therefore, I am truly thankful for the chance to come back to the United States as a Fulbright scholar, allowing me to immerse myself in intercultural communication and relations while following my passion for teaching. In my free time I love to explore the outdoors, especially forests and national parcs (I already visited Zion National Parc and Bryce Canyon) but also like to listen to my favorite true crime podcast or watch some true crime documentaries. I am looking forward to meeting you all and feel free to yell a 'Moin' when you see me!
Emma Leclerq - France (French)
Bonjour ! Directly imported from France, your soon-to-be favorite French teacher has lived in many countries, such as Spain, Australia and now the USA. We can definitely assume she will have an open mind for any concern you might have, but also, as a good French cliché, she is always ready for a nice chat. From philosophy to movies to "why is the line I just picked the slowest' when shopping, she'll be delighted to vent about it together. Pro-tip: chocolate or candies can ease a hungry French person.
Chih-Yi (Arena) Wu - Taiwan (Mandarin)
大家好 (dà jiā hǎo)!My name is Chih-Yi Wu (吳芝頤 wú zhī yí). I'm from Taoyuan, Taiwan. Taiwan is a beautiful island in the heart of Asia. We have lots of good food and fantastic hand-shaken drinks, such as braised pork rice and milk tea with boba and taro balls. I was major in teaching Chinese as a second language at the National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei, the Capital of Taiwan, which is famous for Taipei 101 and the clean metro. I was a 2022-2023 Fulbright FLTA at the United States Military Academy (West Point) for teaching Chinese. Hudson River, mountains, eagles, 'Yes, Ma'am,' and a big group of kind-hearted army people was my life then. I feel belong there and these motivated me back to the United States again. I'm planning to pursue for a higher degree on international affairs, especially the relations between the U.S., China, and Taiwan. Come to my class! Let's talk more about what you are interested in, and you will know how to get a cup of boba tea with less sugar and normal ice!
