Special University Liturgies

Our American Sign Language (ASL) students continue to participate in our Sunday liturgy. The Sign Language Interpreted masses are held the first Sunday of the Month at 11:00 AM in Madonna Della Strada Chapel and will reconvene on September 6, 2026 .

University Community Masses

Throughout the school year, we celebrate mass together as a reminder that your education is deeply tied to faith, service, and justice. While Scranton is a Catholic and Jesuit university, its liturgies support and welcome students of all faith backgrounds to feel seen, valued, and included as we ask for God's help, grace, wisdom, and guidance throughout the school year. 

Welcome Mass

Join the campus community for our official welcome of the Class of 2030. A special Mass will be offered for the members of the Class of 2030 on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 4 PM in the Byron Center.

The Mass of the Holy Spirit 

This is a longstanding tradition in Jesuit education, dating back to the 16th century. The University of Scranton will celebrate its annual Mass of the Holy Spirit on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. in the Byron Center.

Family Weekend Mass

Plan to attend this mass especially for students and visiting family members of all faiths and religious traditions in a spirit of inclusive community. Mass will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. in the Byron Center.

Advent Mass and Tree Lighting

During the final weeks of the Fall semester, members of The University of Scranton community gathered in reflection and celebration. The annual Advent Liturgy Mass will be held on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2026 inside the Byron Center.

After Mass, attendees are invited to the John and Jacquelyn Dionne Campus Green at the heart of campus, where the University's Christmas tree lighting which takes place alongside our Nativity scene.

  • The liturgy is a fully Catholic liturgy and any Catholic in good standing may receive communion at the liturgy.
  • All are invited to attend this liturgy each Tuesday. 
  • Vespers will be held every Friday beginning at 5:30 PM in Ciszek Hall

Interfaith Prayer Room

Our newly built interfaith prayer room is located on the fourth floor of Weiss Hall.

While the University is grounded in Catholic teaching and tradition, we recognize the gifts inherent in a diverse student body. Campus Ministry supports students of all religious traditions and seeks ways to honor the multiple religious expressions of our students. Our worship services are celebrated when the University is open and while classes are in session.
