Mission
As Catholic and Jesuit, the University is called to engage the world as an avenue for exploration, wisdom and service. With the essential spirit of inquiry that makes us a university, we connect and apply learning and discovery with communities near and far, with the environment and with one another. With a unique caring and concern, we devote ourselves to service for and with others as a path to a deeper understanding of ourselves, and as a means of promoting justice.
Located in the heart of a City, The University of Scranton approaches its Jesuit mission of service and engagement with the community as a fundamental responsibility.
The Office of Community Relations serves as the University’s link with the Greater Scranton area by sharing information and building positive relationships. The Office is the University’s primary liaison with area residents, neighborhood groups, community organizations and government bodies in Northeastern Pennsylvania, and particularly the City of Scranton. We facilitate two-way communication, representing the University to the community and ensuring that the voice of the community is heard within the University. The Office provides resources to help students, parents, faculty, and staff to become part of the community. Together with campus partners, it seeks to identify and encourage mutually beneficial connections between University departments and programs and vital community-defined goals.
