Seminars for Faculty and Staff

Catholic Intellectual Tradition Seminar

Moderated by a team of University of Scranton professors and academic administrators, this weeklong seminar is designed to provide faculty and staff a broad introduction to the Catholic intellectual tradition that gave rise to and continues to animate Catholic universities, including the University of Scranton. Participants engage the Catholic intellectual tradition through consideration of texts highlighting the thought, art and spirituality of major figures of the early Church, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, as well as the 19th and 20th centuries.

Faculty Seminar in Ignatian Vision Pedagogy

This weeklong seminar, offered to faculty every August, involves a set of assigned readings which are discussed under the direction of Fr. Ronald McKinney, SJ of the Philosophy Department. The experience focuses on the Catholic and Jesuit nature of our educational enterprise. The history, spirituality, and pedagogical theory of the Jesuits are explored in terms of how professors can better incorporate this vision into their University of Scranton classrooms.

Ignatian Spirituality of Teaching Seminar

This weeklong, faith-based seminar is offered every August and engages professors seeking a deeper understanding of the relationship between their own faith and the spirituality of teaching as it is understood in the Jesuit tradition. It draws on the images, themes and presuppositions of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius as a way of fostering conversation about what difference it makes that one is a professor at a Jesuit university.

Ignatian Spirituality: Faith for Real Life Seminar

This faith-based seminar examines elements of the life of St. Ignatius and Ignatian spirituality in order to integrate Ignatian values into our daily lives. The seminar further explores and deepens our understanding of the role we play as lay people in advancing the Catholic, Jesuit Mission of the University.
