Billie Tadros, Ph.D.

Excellence in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
This award is designed to recognize the efforts of faculty who strive for excellence in teaching and who practice teaching as a form of scholarship. The recipient of this year’s award is Dr. Billie Tadros.
Dr. Tadros came to the University in 2018 and is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of English and Theatre.
Billie’s excellence in teaching and learning is evidenced by her work with the University Honor’s Program, where she has mentored two Honor’s theses and taught over a dozen Honor’s tutorials, her work with the Slattery Center, the Faculty Student Research Program, and as Moderator of Sigma Tau Delta (the English Honor Society).
Billie is currently completing her sabbatical year where she has continued her emphasis on teaching and learning. Earlier this academic year, Billie participated in the orientation of students in the Dallas Prison Program, instructed a Community Health Humanities Workshop, and has continued working with students on their convention submissions and presentations. As one nominator put it, “Billie cannot seem to step too far or too long away from teaching and learning. Her students won’t let her!” Her default is to practice teaching as a form of scholarship.
Billie’s expertise in the field of medical humanities has helped to bridge the gap between medicine and the humanities which our pre-med students were hungry for and fits in perfectly with our Catholic institution where the value of the whole person, cura personalis, is put into practice.
Billie is also the author of three poetry books and contributed poems to numerous books and anthologies in print and on-line. She has been the recipient of many internal research awards and a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities for the development of our Health Humanities Concentration and support of Community-based Learning.
