Nathaniel Frissell, Ph.D.

Excellence in Scholarly Publication
In light of the University’s goal of promoting faculty scholarship, the University is pleased to recognize the special efforts of faculty who strive for, and have attained, distinction in scholarship and creative activity. The recipient of the faculty enhancement award for Scholarly Publication is Dr. Nathaniel Frissell.
Dr. Frissell earned his PhD from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Engineering.
Dr. Frisell has been an active researcher since arriving at the University six years ago. Since that time, he has been awarded over $4 million in research grants to support his work. As an example, as founder and leader of the HamSci (Ham radio Science Citizen Investigation) he has been awarded over $3 million in NSF, NASA and ARDC funding for these projects.
During the course of these studies, he has mentored several Master’s and PhD students, supported several postdoctoral research students here at Scranton, and mentored many undergraduate research students leading to over a dozen published papers in top-tier journals and over 30 presentations at conferences and workshops in the last 6 years. Nathaniel has often involved his campus colleagues in collaborative research efforts.
In addition to serving as a role model for his research efforts, Dr. Frissell has provided unparalleled support to other faculty members in preparation of their own grant applications to NSF.
