Graduate-Main Campus

Students enrolled on at least a half-time basis (at least three credits) in an eligible program may apply for Federal Work Study, Federal Direct Stafford Unsubsidized Student Loan, Direct Plus Loan for Graduate Students or Alternative Loan programs. Graduate Assistantships are available to regularly admitted graduate students in a graduate degree. 

The Federal Direct Stafford Unsubsidized Student Loan Program is the primary source of financial aid for many graduate students.  

Required Documents For Aid Applicants
All graduate students applying for financial aid must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
The FAFSA Title IV school code for the University of Scranton:  003384.
 
Direct Stafford Unsubsidized Loan Eligibility for Graduate Students
The annual grade level maximum for Graduate students is $20,500.  
The annual grade level maximum for Masters of Health Administration and MBA/MHA Dual Degree is $33,000. 
 
Enrollment Status for Graduate Students
Graduate students are considered to be full-time students if enrolled for a minimum of six credits per semester.  
Students who are enrolled for a minimum of three credits per semester or session are considered to be half-time students.

Employer Reimbursement
Employer reimbursement will be considered as a resource and will be counted toward Loan eligibility.  Please notify the Financial Aid Office if you are receiving Employer Reimbursement.

Deferment of Tuition Payment for Students with Employer Tuition Reimbursement  
In order to be eligible for deferment of student's tuition payment, students must complete the Deferment of Tuition Payment form for each term students are seeking tuition reimbursement.  Forms must be submitted to the Bursar's Office no later than one week after the first day of classes for each term.  Provide a copy of student's employer's tuition policy.  Pay all tuition not covered by student's employer by the normal due date.  Deferred tuition must be paid in full within 14 days after the release of grades.  Please visit the Bursar's website under common forms.   

Graduate Assistantships
The tuition scholarship covers partial tuition and fees associated with the graduate courses taken during the graduate assistantship agreement period.  The assistantship amount is taken into account when determining Financial Aid.  The Office of Graduate Academic and Student Services coordinates the assistantships.  Please visit Graduate Education website for application and deadline information.

Nelnet Business Solutions Monthly Payment Plan
The University provides a no-interest, monthly installment payment plan per term offered through Nelnet Business Solutions that allows students to budget educational expenses not covered by other aid programs and loans.  This eliminates the need to make lump sum payments prior to the beginning of each term.  Visit the Loans & Financing Options section on the Financial Aid website for more information. 

Loan Programs

Applicants interested in borrowing under the Federal Direct Stafford Loan program must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  The Federal Direct Stafford Unsubsidized Loan Program is the primary source of financial aid for many graduate students and requires a minimum half-time enrollment.  For new Stafford Loan borrowers, you will be required to complete an electronic Federal Direct Stafford Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) and must complete Entrance Counseling requirements before receiving the loan funds.  Visit the Loans & Financing Options section on the Financial Aid website for more information. 

The Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan is available to credit-worthy Graduate students who have exhausted their Federal Direct Stafford Loan eligibility in an academic year.  Graduate students are required to first utilize the Direct Stafford Loan Program prior to borrowing under the Direct PLUS Loan Program. The U.S. Department of Education will conduct the mandatory credit check.  Direct Graduate PLUS borrowers may borrow up to the cost of attendance for the period of enrollment, minus other estimated financial assistance received for the period.  For Graduate PLUS borrowers, complete the online University of Scranton Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan Request Form and complete the Federal Direct PLUS Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN).  Visit the Loans & Financing Options section on the Financial Aid website for more information.
