Council of Alumni Lawyers

Mission Statement

The Council of Alumni Lawyers (CAL) seeks to advance the mission and reputation of The University of Scranton by providing the University and its students with an accessible and engaged network of alumni lawyers. Members of the Council utilize their experience and education, and leverage their professional networks, to actively support faculty, staff and administrators in leading the educational and professional development of Scranton students who plan to enter the field of law. The Council also serves as an example to the broader alumni community, encouraging greater involvement and investment in the University’s strategic priorities and student success.

On October 18, 2019, six University of Scranton alumni lawyers came together on campus with faculty and staff to formally re-establish the Council of Alumni Lawyers. eric-brophy.jpgEric D. Brophy, Esq. ’92 will serve as the newest Chair of the University Council of Alumni Lawyers effective May 1, 2021. Eric is currently the Executive Director of the New Jersey Educational Facilities Authority in Princeton, New Jersey. In his capacity as Executive Director, Eric serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Authority and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of a New Jersey independent Authority responsible for the issuance of taxable and tax-exempt bonds, as well as the administration of several State-backed grant programs, for institutions of higher education in New Jersey. Previously, Eric served as a member of the University of Scranton Alumni Society Advisory Board (f/k/a Board of Governors). In addition, Eric and his wife, Elaine '92, endowed the Ignatian Global Citizen Program in the University’s Department of Political Science in 2018. Eric attended Seton Hall University School of Law, graduating in 1999 and spent twenty (20) years in private practice at several law firms eventually running his own law firm for eleven (11) years before joining Governor Murphy’s administration.

Scranton alumni who are working in the field of law or who are currently enrolled in law school are encouraged to join the Council of Alumni Lawyers. Members utilize their experience and education to actively support faculty, staff and administrators in leading the educational and professional development of Scranton students who plan to enter the field of law.
