Establishing the Endowment
To secure the future of summer research for thesis students, Dr. Vinson is giving $25,000 to initiate The Joe A. Vinson Ph.D. Endowment for Summer Thesis Research in Chemistry. An endowment investment of $50,000 is the minimum for a permanent endowment. An endowment simply means that the University will do everything possible to keep the principle secured and use a portion of the investment income (4.35%) to support the Vinson Scholar working on summer thesis research; the rest of the investment will grow the endowment. With this important investment, Dr. Vinson’s legacy will continue to enrich the lives of students well beyond our years and for the life of this great University. Our goal for this project is to match Dr. Vinson’s $25,000 and establish an endowment of $50,000 to sustain the income level that truly makes a difference for Vinson Summer Research Scholars.
