Facebook Tutorials
Creating a Profile
The first step in using Facebook is to create a profile.
-
In the box to the right, fill in your name, e-mail, password, and birthday.
-
Click Sign up
-
Confirm your e-mail
-
On the next page it will ask if you would like to find friends. You can choose to skip this step if you prefer and find friends on your own when you have an account.
-
The next step will ask you where you went to high school, where you went to college and where you work. These are only used to help you find people online who have gone to the same school or company as you.
-
Once you have completed those steps, you should see a news feed. Picture shown in the About Profile section.
-
Once you see the news feed you have successfully created an account! Continue to see some details about your profile.
About your profile
This part will tell you the specifics about your e-mail account.
-
After you log in from the homepage, you will open the News Feed page. The news feed highlights what's happening in you social circles on Facebook.
-
This News Feed page will keep you up-to-date with everything that is going on with your friends and Facebook.
-
Click on the profile link at the top to view your profile.
-
If you just created a facebook account, your profile might look like this:
-
To compare this to ANGEL, each field is a nugget. The ones with an X along the top means you can choose to move, or remove it from your profile.
-
The wall is basically a mini discussion board that you can monitor.
-
The mini news feed contains information on everything you do, which you can edit in the privacy settings located in the top right corner.
-
Facebook also gives you a personal mailbox, allowing you to send private messages to each other's facebook profiles.
Adding Friends
With using Facebook, you can add friends which shows who you know that has facebook. This connection allows you special priviledges onto your friend's facebook profile.
-
To add friends you can put their name into the search box on the left of the page.
-
If you are having trouble finding your friends, or your search is just too broad, make sure to filter your search to pinpoint your friends, for example:
-
Some of your friends may have a privacy setting so that no one can search for them. Make sure you contact your friends and let them know you are looking for them, and have them "friend" you.
Creating a Group
Facebook allows people to create groups with the same interests to keep in contact with each other.
-
Click on groups to the left of your profile page shown here:
-
At the top left of the groups page you will see an area to search for an existing group, or you can make your own.
-
If you want to create your own group click "Create a New Group".
-
Please enter the fields and go through each step.
-
In the CUSTOMIZATION step please be careful. These settings are important for your group especially if you are making it for a class. Each form of security is detailed next to the bullet.
-
After your customizations, you can invite friends to join your group. In the picture below, your friends are listed on the right, and you can search for others when the group is created. If your friends do not have facebook, you can e-mail them using the smaller box on the lower right.
Uploading a video
Facebook allows users to upload videos.
-
Go to www.facebook.com/video.
-
Here you can download the video application. You need this in order to upload or record any video for Facebook.
-
Once you downloaded the application, you can record or upload videos.
-
To upload a video you will see this screen. Click "file upload."
-
To get more space available to upload videos have facebook send you a message to your cellphone and have them confirm that you have an account.
-
Once you upload a video you can tag friends to the video, and it will be available 8to everyone or just your friends if you choose to.
About Applications

-
Click on Applications to the left of your profile page shown here:
-
At this page you can rearrange the order your applications are in or you can remove/edit them.
-
At the top right you can browse for more applications to make your profile more exciting.
-
When you are browsing, you will see that there is a lot of choices.
