Why did you choose Scranton?

Scranton provides a well-balanced education, and the Jesuit identity places an emphasis on learning and growing beyond the classroom that makes its education unique. I felt drawn to the sense of community that exists here, and how much the faculty truly want students to succeed. A smaller university like Scranton allows for better connections between students and faculty, and I found that valuable when selecting a college.

What Do You Like About the Political Science Major?

It challenges me to understand issues around the world and the systems in place. The conversations we have in the classroom are not purely academic and extend outside the classroom. With an end goal of law school, I wanted to expand my interest for political knowledge, and I like the contextual background that comes from the major. It allows you to reflect on the current issues in our world and what may be done.

Tell Us About Your Internship Experiences.

This summer, I had the opportunity to intern in Senator Kirsten Gillibrand’s Central New York office. Alongside my fellow interns, I took incoming calls from constituents regarding casework and political concerns. I participate in “Upstate Day” events with the senator, preparing various briefs, profiles, and statements in preparation. I got to expand my congressional background throughout the internship and contribute to the Senate even on a smaller scale. It helped redefine my interest in politics and congress.

How Has Your Major Prepared You for Life After Scranton?

Studying Political Science has allowed me to define my areas of political interest while gaining important knowledge about the world around me. The University and Political Science department have prepared me for the next chapter of my life at law school. I have developed a background on the political realm that will be crucial in pursuing certain fields of law and navigating everyday life.
