Students, Faculty & Staff are welcome to attend free Weekly Wellness Classes.

        Mondays

Mindfulness Meditation, 5:00p.m. – 5:30p.m., 127 (LSC) Loyola Science Center (held during the fall and spring semesters)
Light Weights and Abs, 5:00p.m.-6:00p.m., Royals Room in the Byron- staff and faculty only 

Tuesdays

Yoga Flow, 12:15p.m.- 12:45p.m., Royals Room in the Byron 
POUND, 5:00 p.m.- 5:45p.m., Royals Room in the Byron (limited to 35 per class)
Wednesdays
Light Weights and Abs, 5:00p.m.-6:00p.m., Royals Room in the Byron- staff & faculty only 
Energizing Yoga, 6:00p.m. – 7:00p.m., Royals Room in the Byron (held during the fall and spring semesters)
Tia Chi, 12:15- 1:00p.m, Royals Room in the Byron (10-week series beginning 9/25)
Weigh in Wednesdays, 9:00a.m. - 4:00p.m., CHEW, AMH (1st Floor lobby)  and the Leahy Family Clinic in McGurrin Hall

Thursdays

Energizing Yoga, 5:00p.m. – 6:00p.m., Royals Room in the Byron (held during the fall and spring semesters)

Fridays

Gentle Yoga, 12:15p.m. – 12:45p.m., Royals Room in the Byron
Classes begin the second week of the semester and run through "dead" week, the week before finals.

Email chew@scranton.edu to be placed on a group email to receive notifications about room changes and/or cancellations about the class you are interested in attending.

 


   Energizing Yoga: This class is for experienced students as well as beginners with a higher fitness level.
      Breath is emphasized throughout this practice. The class includes sun salutations, standing, seated and                   reclining poses as well as some balancing poses. Relaxation closes the class.
       Wednesdays 6pm – 7pm in the Royals Room in the Byron
       Thursdays 5pm – 6pm in the Royals Room in the Byron
       Open to students, staff and faculty.

Gentle Yoga: This class is perfect for the beginner or someone who prefers a slower yoga class.  Basic yoga poses will be taught.  Breathing practices and relaxation techniques will be presented to achieve an inner sense of wellbeing. Instruction will include simple alignment techniques to cultivate comfortable posture and internal strength.

Light Weights & Abs:  An upbeat group fitness class combining total body toning and aerobic exercise using light weights and resistance bands. Have fun while burning fat and strengthening your muscles, heart and lungs. Please wear comfortable workout attire and sneakers. Light weights are provided.
Open to staff and faculty only.
Monday and Wednesdays 5:00pm – 6:00pm in the Royals Room in the Byron

Mindfulness Meditation: This half hour class provides the fundamentals of Mindfulness Mediation which is shown to reduce anxiety, depression and to improve well-being. Through increased awareness of body sensations, thoughts and emotions and a reduction in stress sensations these practices are intended to enhance the participant’s ability to recognize and respond to the stressors of everyday life.
Through meditation and awareness exercises, we will explore this practical time-proven approach to living fully in the present moment.

Weigh in Wednesdays: Staff, Faculty and Students: Want to be mindful of your weight to stay healthy? Keep track at the scale on Wednesdays at three convenient locations. Staff and faculty sign in to get 10 wellness points each time you weigh in towards the Tier 3 wellness incentive. The weigh in is confidential. No need to track or report to anyone. 9:00am - 4:00pm.

POUND: POUND® is designed for all fitness levels and provides the perfect atmosphere for letting loose, getting energized, toning up and rockin’ out! The workout is easily modifiable, and the alternative vibe and welcoming philosophy appeals to men and women of all ages and abilities.

Tai Chi: Originally developed for self-defense, Tai Chi has evolved into a graceful form of exercise that is now used for stress reduction and a variety of other health conditions. Learn how the gentle flowing movements of Tai Chi can calm your mind, reduce your stress and improve your overall health. It is the perfect mind body exercise for any fitness level and promotes flexibility and balance.
