CHEW'S Spring Weekly Wellness Classes begins Wednesday, January 24th! Check out our class locations on RoyalSync, IM Leagues or email chew@scranton.edu. Open to students, staff and faculty.

Drop-in classes taught by professional instructors to promote stress relief and increase strength, flexibility, and mindfulness. Classes are free and open to students, staff and faculty. Classes begin Monday, August 28th. 


Light Weights & Abs*- Monday &Wednesday 5pm-5:50pm- Royals Room Byron Gym *Staff & Faculty only class 

Mindfulness Meditation- Monday 5pm-5:30pm- Library Room 305  

Drop-in Pickleball*- Tuesdays 12-1pm-Byron Gym *Staff & Faculty only class 

POUND- Tuesday 6:00pm-6:45pm- Royals Room Byron Gym

 Weekly Wellness Classes Descriptions:

Lunchtime Yoga Flow: This class is suitable for beginner yoga practitioners. Basic yoga poses will be taught.  Breathing practices and relaxation techniques will be presented to achieve an inner sense of well-being. Instruction will include simple alignment techniques to cultivate comfortable posture and internal strength. A gentle 30-minute class focusing on flowing from pose to pose and linking the movement with the breath. The instructor will offer a variety of modifications to encourage participation of everyone. Classes will include sitting, standing, and inverted postures, and suggest challenging variations for more advanced students, yet fun and non-intimidating options for newer students.

Mindfulness Meditation:

This half-hour class provides the fundamentals of Mindfulness Meditation, which is shown to reduce anxiety, depression and to improve well-being. Through increased awareness of body sensations, thoughts and emotions these practices are intended to enhance the participant’s ability to recognize and respond to the stressors of everyday life with greater skill and resilience. Through meditation and awareness practices, we will explore this practical and scientifically research approach to living fully in the present moment.

Designed for all fitness levels, POUND® provides the perfect atmosphere for letting loose, getting energized, improving your health, and rocking out! Join us for an introductory class where you can pound away stress and channel your inner rock star while using Ripstix- lightly weighted exercise drumsticks. Join us on Tuesdays at 6:00 pm to help POUND away stress and channel your inner rock star.

Light Weights & Abs:  Light Weights & Abs is an upbeat group fitness class combining total body toning and aerobic exercise. Have fun while burning calories and toning your muscles. Please wear comfortable workout attire and sneakers. (Open to Faculty & Staff only)

Pickleball: Join us for America’s fastest growing sport and play with colleagues! The Employee Wellness is thrilled to announce Drop-in Pickleball on the schedule. In collaboration with Rec Sports, drop-in Pickleball will be held on Tuesdays from 12-1pm in the Byron Gym courts for staff and faculty. No experience is necessary, all skill levels are welcome. Please email chew@scranton.edu if you are interested in being on the Pickleball email list.

 Energizing Yoga : This class is for experienced students as well as beginners with a higher fitness level. Breath is emphasized throughout this practice. The 45-minute Energizing Yoga classes are designed to cultivate heat in the body with creative sequences involving sun salutations, standing and seated postures and a strong focus on the power of breath awareness. Energizing Yoga classes tend to be more aerobic, and will incorporate poses that cultivate strength, breath, and body awareness. The class includes sun salutations, standing, seated and reclining poses, as well as some balancing, poses. Relaxation closes the class.
