Donor Challenges

$25,000 Challenge Match - Opening Doors Scholarship
Join Betsy and Jim Slattery '86, former Chair, Board of Trustees, as they match gifts up to $25,000! Your gift to The Opening Doors Scholarship Fund will provide financial aid for students seeking to enroll at The University of Scranton from the Cristo Rey Network of High Schools, from Arrupe College, and from other institutions with a similar mission. It will assist those students with any unmet financial needs after all other sources of financial aid and scholarship have been determined, allowing them a fully-funded Scranton education.

$25,000 Challenge Match - Dr. Jack Beidler Memorial Scholarship
Thanks to an anonymous donor, gifts of up to $25,000 will be matched up until midnight on May 6. Dr. Jack Beidler served as a professor at Scranton for more than 50 years. He joined the faculty in 1964, teaching in mathematics as well as the Computing Sciences Department, which he co-founded in 1970 with support from the National Science Foundation for the purchase of equipment, making Scranton one of the first Jesuit computer science programs in the country. He was interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences on a few occasions, and has, in some manner, contributed to the success of 1200+ alumni. At the time of his retirement, he was the longest-tenured professor.

After Dr. Beidler's passing in December 2021, his children, Ann Beidler Nicastro '85, John Beidler '87, Andrew Beidler '89 and Kate Beidler Reager '00, decided to endow a scholarship in his memory that will aid incoming Computer Science majors.

$5,000 Athletics Team Challenge

Each year, nearly 400 students participate in intercollegiate athletics at Scranton, proudly representing our school and community. Our goal is to provide our students, coaches and teams with a truly transformative experience that is reflective of our Jesuit identity. For the Athletics Team Challenge, coaches and student-athletes compete to win $5,000 in additional gifts for their team by collecting the most donors by midnight on 5.06. Click here to support your team!

$5,000 is on the line for the Athletics Team Challenge

$1,000 Challenge Match - Vinson Endowment for Research in Chemistry
When the Vinson Endowment reaches 25 donors, the Medical Alumni Council Executive Committee will unlock an additional $1,000 to support student research! To secure the future of summer research for thesis students, Dr. Vinson initiated The Joe A. Vinson Ph.D. Endowment for Summer Thesis Research in Chemistry. With this important investment, Dr. Vinson’s legacy will continue to enrich the lives of students well beyond our years and for the life of this great University. Currently, we have reached one milestone by raising $50,000 for undergraduate research, and the ultimate goal is to exceed $100,000, raising an additional $50,000 for graduate research.
