Who We Are

The Health Professions Organization (HPO) is a student group that provides information, support and networking opportunities for pre-medical, pre-dental, pre-veterinary, pre-podiatry, pre-optometry, and pre-pharmacy students. Membership is open to students of any major who have an interest in careers in health care.

We hold meetings each week. Guest speakers offer presentations on topics such as specialities within the medical field, medical ethics, and navigating the professional school application process. There is also an annual retreat.

Our speakers are often Scranton alumni who are in professional school or currently practicing in the health care field.
By interacting with them, our students can:

  • Begin to discern which types of professional school interest them
  • Build a network of contacts in the field
  • Meet alumni who serve as ideal models of "men and women for others" by using their scientific and clinical expertise to serve those in need
  • Learn what it takes to succeed as a health care professional
