Information for Counseling Majors

The Field Office assists counseling majors with applying for clearances and potential site placement. The office partners with CastleBranch, a company that facilitates background screening services for university students in certain majors.

Clearances

Current clearances are necessary before a student begins work at any University-affiliated site.

Note: Clearances remain valid for one year from the date on the document.

For information about the clearances that you'll need, please select your academic program:

Undergraduate - Counseling and Human Services

Undergraduate students are required to have the following clearances: 

 CastleBranch

  • For more information on how to order clearance packages, visit the CastleBranch resources page.
  • Begin the application process.
    • Use package code UM54 to begin your application and complete your requirements
  • Depending on your field site, you may also be required to complete a 10-panel drug screen. Use code UM54dt.
  • If you are placing an order with CastleBranch for the first time and already have your Pennsylvania State Police results, use code UM54ex.
  • If you are a returning student and need to order a recheck package, use code UM54r.

Graduate - Clinical Mental Health and Rehabilitation Counseling

Graduate students in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Rehabilitation Counseling programs are required to have the following clearances:

  • Begin the application process.
  • If you are placing an order for the first time, use package code UM53 ($72 plus outside costs for fingerprints, child abuse clearance and TB test).
  • If you are placing an order for for the first time, and already have your Pennsylvania State Police results, use code UM53ex ($50 plus outside costs for state police, fingerprints, child abuse clearance and TB test).
  • If you are a returning student and need to order a recheck package, use code UM53r ($44 plus outside costs for fingerprints, child abuse clearance and TB test).
  • Depending on your field site, you may also be required to complete a 10-panel drug screen. Use code UM53dt ($40).

Graduate - School Counseling

Graduate students in the School Counseling program are required to have the following clearances:

  • Begin the application process.
  • If you are placing an order for the first time, use package code UM52 ($81 plus outside costs for fingerprints, child abuse clearance and TB test).
  • If you are placing an order for the first time and already have your Pennsylvania State Police results, use code UM52ex ($59 plus outside costs for state police, fingerprints, child abuse clearance and TB test).
  • If you are a returning student and need to order a recheck package, use code UM52r ($44 plus outside costs for fingerprints, child abuse clearance and TB test).
  • Depending on your field site, you may also be required to complete a 10-panel drug screen. Use code UM52dt ($40).
