Silsbee Award Recipients

 

The Psychology Department is proud to announce Kerry Buckhaults as the inaugural recipient of the Mary Nguyen Silsbee Award. Ms. Buckhaults is a senior psychology and neuroscience double major, and a member of the University of Scranton Honors Program.

For her honors thesis Ms. Buckhaults is investigating the effects of environmental cues on food perception and consumption. She has been conducting research in this area under the mentorship of Dr. Patrick Orr since the summer of 2017. Ms. Buckhaults intends to use the funds from the award to purchase supplies and for research-related travel expenses. She hopes to present her research findings at the American Psychology Association’s Annual Convention in August. Her research contributes to the existing literature on food perception and environmental effects on food consumption.

Ms. Buckhaults hopes to pursue graduate studies in behavioral neuroscience.

 

 


The Mary Nguyen Silsbee research award is available to University of Scranton psychology majors engaging in research. This money can be used for research costs, including (but not limited to) instrumentation, surveys, photocopying, travel, and equipment. Students may apply for up to $500.
