W3USR Amateur Radio Station

Fr. Murgas Day - November 15, 2025

Come Celebrate Fr. Murgas Day and the 50th Anniversary of the Murgas Amateur Radio Club K3YTL! This event will take place in the University of Scranton Loyola Science Center Room 133 PNC Auditorium on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at 1 PM Eastern. The event will feature a historical reenactment of Fr. Murgas'  famous 1905 radio transmissions between Wilkes-Barre and Scranton. During our reenactment, the University of Scranton President Fr. Joseph Marina and Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti will exchange radio messages with King's College President Fr. Thomas Looney and Wilkes-Barre Mayor George Brown. About

W3USR is part of the University of Scranton Physics and Engineering Department, a University of Scranton Student Club, and a flagship station for the Ham Radio Science Citizen Investigation (HamSCI) project.

Location

W3USR is located in Loyola Science Center Room 596. To get to the station, take the elevator located next to LSC room 164 to level "P" (Penthouse). Once on level P, exit the elevator, turn left, and walk down the hallway until you see W3USR.

Visitor parking information is available at the University of Scranton Admissions Parking Page. A recommended parking location for visitors is the City of Scranton metered street parking in front of the Lackawanna Historical Society Catlin House located at 232 Monroe Ave, Scranton, PA 18510. Metered parking is free after 7 PM Mondays through Fridays, and free all day on Saturdays and Sundays. The Loyola Science Center is the building that surrounds the Catlin House museum.

Open Station Hours

W3USR open to the public on Thursday evenings from 7-9 PM when regular university classes (not summer or intersession) are in session. Please see the University of Scranton Academic Calendar for details.

Repeater

The W3USR repeater (445.875 - 82.5) is located on the HF tower on the roof of the Loyola Science Center in downtown Scranton. We welcome all licensed amateurs to come and use our repeater!
