Studying Abroad

LALS students are strongly encouraged to study abroad in Latin America or the Caribbean. Likewise, we invite students who choose to study in Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain or Portugal to consider enrolling in a Latin American and Latinx Studies program.

Students who wish to study abroad for one of two semesters should contact the Office of Global Education. Prior to travel abroad, students should consult with the LALS director for guidance and preapproval of study abroad courses to ensure that you are on track to graduate when you return home.

For students desiring a study abroad experience in a shorter timeframe, LALS currently offers study abroad programs during intersession. This is an economical option, since The University of Scranton offers these courses at the discounted tuition rate, thus helping to offset the costs of travel. Please see the catalog for current offerings. Additionally, the International Service Program organizes service trips to multiple countries in Latin America.

LALS students in their final year are encouraged to pursue teaching, research, or service abroad. Several LALS graduates have won prestigious Fulbright fellowships or worked in Latin America through the Jesuit Volunteer Corps.
