GU1DE Program

This is a program for first-generation students by first-generation students!

First-year students are paired with sophomore, junior, or senior mentors. Through individual and small group meetings, students will learn more about campus, tips and tricks to navigate academic and social life, and make new friends.

Leadership Opportunities

There are a variety of ways students can become involved in the THR1VE program:

  • as program attendees
  • as GU1DE program participants
  • as Student Coordinators

How to Speak Scranton

Colleges and universities have unique languages, and The University of Scranton is no different. On campus, the people you interact with use abbreviations and terms that you may not be familiar with. To make things a little easier, we've prepared this comprehensive guide to the language of the University. The guide is broken up into five major categories, and these categories are further subdivided so that you can find exactly what you're looking for at any point.

A Proud "First-Gen Forward" Institution

A Proud "First-Gen Forward" Institution

As a result of the commitment to improving experiences and advancing outcomes of first-generation college students demonstrated through our programming, Scranton's THR1VE program was selected to join the national 2022-23 First-gen Forward cohort.

The cohort was sponsored by The Center for First-Generation Student Success, an initiative of the Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education and The Suder Foundation.

Colleges selected to the First-gen Forward program receive professional development, community-building experiences and have access to research and other resources to further improve their programming for first-generation college students.
