About
W3USR is part of the University of Scranton Physics and Engineering Department, a University of Scranton Student Club, and a flagship station for the Ham Radio Science Citizen Investigation (HamSCI) project.
Ham Radio Open House 2025
April is both Citizen Science Month and World Amateur Radio Day! To celebrate, W3USR and HamSCI is teaming up with the ARRL and SciStarter to host an Amateur Radio Open House and participate in One Million Acts of Science! The W3USR Open House will take place on Thursday, April 24, 2025 and will consist of the following public events:
- IEEE Seminar from 12 – 1 PM in the DeNaples Moskovitz Theater: “NEXT-GENERATION HAMSCI RECEIVE SYSTEM – Advancing Space Weather Monitoring” by Rob Robinett AI6VN, WSPRDaemon Founder and HamSCI Collaborator
- Open Station Hours from 4 – 9 PM at the W3USR Amateur Radio Station
Location
W3USR is located in Loyola Science Center Room 596. To get to the station, take the elevator located next to LSC room 164 to level "P" (Penthouse). Once on level P, exit the elevator, turn left, and walk down the hallway until you see W3USR.
Visitor parking information is available at the University of Scranton Admissions Parking Page. A recommended parking location for visitors is the City of Scranton metered street parking in front of the Lackawanna Historical Society Catlin House located at 232 Monroe Ave, Scranton, PA 18510. Metered parking is free after 6 PM Mondays through Fridays, and free all day on Saturdays and Sundays. The Loyola Science Center is the building that surrounds the Catlin House museum.
Open Station Hours
W3USR open to the public on Thursday evenings from 7-9 PM when regular university classes (not summer or intersession) are in session. Please see the University of Scranton Academic Calendar for details.
