Staff Opportunities

There are many opportunities for personal development at the University, including educational, technical and general well-being.

Undergraduate and Graduate Courses

Full-time regular employees, employed on the first day of the semester, may take two courses free of tuition charges for each traditional semester timeframe, including intersession and summer session, through the College of Graduate and Continuing Education.  Tuition charges beyond two courses a semester are not paid under this policy.

Part-time employees working at least half time and employed on the first day of the semester are eligible for two courses during the academic year (1 September to 31 August). Review the Human Resources Tuition Remission page for further information.

Staff Voluntary Time Donation Policy

In Fall 2021, the President’s Cabinet enthusiastically approved a new Staff Voluntary Time Donation Policy for University staff effective immediately. The new policy grew directly from the initiative of the Staff Senate. The Senate collaborated with Human Resources to develop a policy that puts a fair and equitable process in place to support a long-standing desire by staff to support each other during times of extended absence due to their own or an eligible family member’s illness or medical emergency.

Through the policy, staff members will be able to donate up to a combination of five days of sick or vacation time per calendar year into a timeshare pool from October 1 to November 30 by completing a Voluntary Vacation and Sick Time Donation/Request Form available through Human Resources. The policy will be administered by the Office of Human Resources.

Eligible staff members may request time from the timeshare pool for medical emergencies as defined by the Internal Revenue Service. The amount of time that may be requested will depend on their regular work schedule and the amount of funds available. In order to be compliant with IRS regulations, the policy includes a number of important steps and procedures. Full details can be reviewed on the Staff Voluntary Vacation and Sick Time Donation Policy on the Office of Human Resources website.
