[MICRO]GRANTS: Women's Volleyball
The University of Scranton women’s volleyball team has been one of the university’s most successful athletics programs over the past 20 years. During that time, the Royals have averaged 21.9 victories per season, including a school-record 31 victories in 1994.
The Royals have captured five conference championships in their 37-year history, including 19 seasons of 20-or-more victories, most recently in 2012. Scranton has also qualified for the Landmark Conference playoffs in four of the six seasons since the conference was formed.
Since the Landmark Conference first started competition in the fall of 2007, 11 Scranton volleyball players have earned all-conference honors. In the Royals’ previous affiliation with the Middle Atlantic Conference, players earned all-conference accolades 64 times, including four MVP or player of the year honorees.
Scranton annually plays a schedule of approximately 30-35 matches, including six Landmark Conference. The Royals host the Scranton Invitational each September and played in tournaments in Pittsburgh and Chicago during the 2012 season.
Your gift to women’s volleyball helps support equipment and uniform upgrades, travel and meal expenses, and training upgrades while helping the Royals continue the tradition of excellence that has been built over the past two decades.
"The hard work and dedication of the young women in Lady Royals volleyball program have established themselves as a national contender in the classroom, being recognized by the AVCA for team Academic Achievement in 2011-2012. Our team has also been recognized on the court as we’ve double our number of matches against nationally ranked opponents each season,” said head coach John Bedell. “With your help you can toss in the assist that helps us play more nationally ranked opponents, obtain a NOAH system to special train our setters, obtain DVR systems to provide near-instant feedback to these young women. You can help them further their path to greatness in order to become champions on the court in addition to in the classroom. Everyone included in the program would love to thank you for any contribution you may be able to provide in to support our goals!"
