[MICRO]GRANTS: Women's Soccer

The University of Scranton women’s soccer program has established itself as one of the most successful programs in the Northeast since it formed in 1983. The Royals have posted 24 seasons of 10-or-more victories and have won 18 conference championships in the program’s 30 seasons.

The Royals are a member of the Landmark Conference, a seven-member conference made up of institutions in the Mid-Atlantic region. Scranton also plays a competitive non-conference schedule, traditionally playing nationally ranked opponents throughout the region. Despite the challenging competition, the team has appeared in 14 NCAA Tournaments, including each of the past three seasons.

The Royals’ success isn’t limited to on-field accomplishments. Emily Farrell (’12) recently became the program’s second Academic All-American, and the team annually has one of the top cumulative grade-point averages among the University’s 18 athletic teams.

Your gift to the women’s soccer program will help fund annual equipment purchases, new uniforms, recruiting budgets and a semi-annual summer training trip. Most recently, the Royals spent 10 days in Europe in the summer of 2012, traveling throughout Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic while training and playing three exhibition matches.

“The women’s soccer program has benefited greatly from the generous donations from our former players, parents and friends,” said head coach Colleen Murphy. “The program’s history of success has continued through the advances in recruiting, equipment and travel made possible by donations.”
