[MICRO]GRANTS: Men's Soccer

After reaching the Elite Eight of the 2012 NCAA Tournament, The University of Scranton men’s soccer team is riding the crest of its most successful season in nearly 30 years. The Royals finished the season ranked ninth in the final national rankings from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

While 2012 was a tremendous season for the men’s soccer program, it merely re-established Scranton as one of the top programs in the Northeast. The Royals previously made four straight Final Four appearances in 1980-1983, including twice finishing as national runners-up (1980, 1981). In the program’s 44 years, it has won 10-or-more games 25 times, made 14 NCAA Tournament appearances and captured 11 conference championships.

In addition to the team success, 10 players have been named All-Americas and one has been named Academic All-America. Head coach Matt Pivirotto, who completed his 14th season in 2012, was named Landmark Conference and NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Coach of the Year this past season.

Your gift to the men’s soccer program will help fund annual equipment purchases, new uniforms, recruiting budgets, travel and meal expenses and help the Royals continue their tradition of excellence.

“The men’s soccer program has a rich tradition of success and our alumni are passionate about the program,” said Pivirotto. “Over the years our soccer alumni have been very generous in their support of the men’s soccer program. Our team appreciates the continued support of our donors. With your help we are able to continue to make the University proud.”
