[MICRO]GRANTS: Men's Lacrosse

The University of Scranton men’s lacrosse team made its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2011 and has set its sights on reaching the NCAAs on a yearly basis. Playing in a region with traditionally strong lacrosse programs, the Royals have averaged nine victories per season over the past five years.

The Royals compete in the Landmark Conference, a six-team conference made up of institutions in the Northeast region. They annually play a schedule of approximately 15 games, including home games at Fitzpatrick Field, the University’s multi-purpose artificial surface field.

Scranton has advanced to the Landmark Conference tournament in four of the past five seasons. During that time, the Royals have had 20 all-conference selections and had their first All-American in 2012. Also, Christian Dugan (’11) twice earned District II All-Academic honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America.

With approximately 45 athletes, the largest roster of any of the university’s 18 athletics teams, the men’s lacrosse program faces unique challenges in many aspects, including uniforms, equipment and travel. Your gift helps support uniform and equipment purchases, travel expenses, game-day enhancements and other improvements for the program to help the Royals in their quest to achieve greatness.

“The University of Scranton men’s lacrosse program has built a strong foundation with great potential for future success,” said head coach, Doug Sage. “Donations from our alumni, parents, friends and supporters allow our program the ability to practice, prepare, train, study film, and ultimately compete at the highest level.  I truly believe that our coaching staff’s and players’ dedication to hard work combined with our passion for college lacrosse will drive our program to the next level!”
