[MICRO]GRANTS: Men's Cross Country

The University of Scranton men’s cross country team has featured some of the most successful athletes in school history. Five former members qualified for the NCAA Division III championships, including Chris Wasnetsky (’12) and Joe Fent (’01), both of whom made three NCAA appearances with Fent twice earning All-American status by finishing in the top 30.

The Royals traditionally compete in six to eight events each fall, including the Landmark Conference championships and NCAA Mideast Regional. The team has had five individual conference champions, including four by Fent, who joins John Mercuri (’07) as the two men’s cross country athletes to earn NCAA Academic All-America honors.

With no home course, the Royals compete exclusively on the road. Your gifts help support travel and meal expenses, uniform upgrades, training technology advancements and other improvements to the help the program achieve continued success.

“Alumni support for the men’s cross country team has helped us add many training aids to the daily practice schedule. Most importantly it has allowed us to meet the entry fees for an outdoor track schedule, which aids in our continued success,” said head coach Bill Burke. “Continued support from alumni, fans and friends will help our cross country teams in their quest to achieve consistent success on the local, regional and national levels.”
