Information Update - Spring 1994
Cheng Siao To Retire
- Cheng Siao, serials librarian at the Weinberg Memorial Library, will be retiring at the end of the summer. Cheng joined the Library staff in 1969. He worked in Reference and Interlibrary Loan until 1977 when he assumed his current position in serials. Prior to this, serials at the University Library had been a part-time position. When Cheng began in serials the number of subscriptions was about 800; it is now approximately 2,000. Cheng was instrumental in organizing the check-in and recordkeeping functions of the department.
- He also was responsible for implementing computerization in 1987 when the Library adopted the Geac online system and for the transfer to the current DRA system in 1993.
- As both a professional colleague and as a friend, we hate to see Cheng leave the Library staff. However, we wish him a happy retirement.
