The Honorable Margaret B. Moyle
Margaret Bisignani Moyle was born and raised in South Scranton. She is a 1980 graduate of Scranton Preparatory High School. In 1984, she received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and in 1987 her Juris Doctor from the Catholic University of America in Washington DC. In law school she was elected president of the Student Bar Association.
In January 1988, Judge Moyle began her career as an Assistant District Attorney for the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office. While serving in that capacity, she handled many serious crimes including rape and attempted murder. In November 1990, Judge Moyle moved with her husband to Miami, Florida. After having been admitted to the Florida Bar, she was hired as an Assistant State Attorney by former United States Attorney General Janet Reno, who was then serving as State Attorney for Miami-Dade County, Florida. In 1993, Judge Moyle was promoted to Assistant Chief of the Sexual Battery Division.
In March 2000, she returned to the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office. In 2005, she was accepted as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. In May 2006, Judge Moyle was promoted to Deputy District Attorney for the Felony Drug Unit. She was selected Prosecutor of the Year by the Scranton Police Department for 2008.
In October 2005, she was hired as a part-time civil litigator by the Mulligan Law Firm. In that capacity, Judge Moyle handled a wide variety of cases from tort litigation to zoning. In July 2008, she joined the Goffer and Cimini Law Firm as a part-time civil litigator handling medical malpractice and family law cases.
On January 4, 2010, Judge Moyle was sworn in as Court of Common Pleas Judge for Lackawanna County, for a ten year term. She is only the second female elected to the bench in Lackawanna County’s history. Currently she resides over a wide array of cases including child custody and dependency, divorce, criminal and orphans court matters.
Judge Moyle has been active in a variety of community activities including the Girl Scouts of America, Green Ridge Little League, St. Paul’s Parish, and the Neighborhood Pride Committee.
She currently resides in the City of Scranton with her husband Douglas Moyle and their five children, Bridey, Liam, Spencer, Maggie, and Skyler.
