William Bernhardt to Receive Distinguished Author Award
The William Bernhardttalents and skills of the 2009 Recipient of the Royden B. Davis Distinguished Author Award, William Bernhardt, reflect many aspects of the contemporary library. William Bernhardt is an author, a teacher, a mentor, a researcher, a composer, and communicator.  As an author, Mr. Bernhardt had sold more than 10 million books in various countries. Library Journal has called him the "master of the courtroom drama." The Vancouver Sun dubbed him "the American equivalent of P.G. Wodehouse and John Mortimer." > Full story

From Our Archives to You, Digitally
First Women Students at The University of ScrantonThe Weinberg Memorial Library continues to digitize the University Archives' rich collection of photographs. Plans are underway to make the digital images available to the public online in the near future. > Full story
Shifting Roles in the Weinberg Memorial Library
It has been an exciting year of transitions in the Weinberg Memorial Library. Last summer we wished a fond farewell to Katie Duke, our Information Literacy Coordinator. In September 2008 we welcomed Part-time Public Services Librarian George Aulisio to our team; his primary job role was to serve students and faculty at the Reference Desk during the day, while we conducted a thorough search for a new Information Literacy Coordinator. This summer we are pleased and excited to announce that our search for a new Information Literacy Coordinator was successful, and the librarian who will be following in Katie Duke's footsteps is our own Bonnie Oldham. > Full Story

Special Collection News
Weinberg Library hosted a very successful run of the American Library Association traveling exhibit Forever Free: Abraham Lincoln's Journey to Emancipation. School groups and community groups visited the exhibit during its February 9-March 22 visit to the Heritage Room. > Full story

Report from the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning
The summer months may be down time to some, but not to the folks at the CTLE. In fact, June, July, and the early part of August are some of our busiest times. In a flurry of activities, we are updating our brochures and designing new ones, we are offering ANGEL workshops, we are assisting a lot of faculty on a one-on-one basis to ensure that they get the effects in their online courses they wish to achieve. > Full story

Librarians Have Departmental Retreat
The librarians of the Weinberg Memorial Library participated in their first departmental retreat on Wednesday, June 17, 2009. Bonnie Oldham, Coordinator of Information Literacy and Kristin Yarmey-Tylutki, Digital Services Librarian initiated the retreat to help the various departments in the library integrate their individual activities and projects with the overall strategic plan of the library and the University. > Full story
