Royals Named To MAC All-Century Teams

Joe Fent

Two-time All-American Joe Fent '01 won four Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) men's cross-country individual titles during his standout career (1997-2000). 

Several former University of Scranton student-athletes have been named to the All-Century teams in their respective sports by the Middle Atlantic Conference as part of its 100-year anniversary as a conference (1912-2012).  The university points with pride to the following former Scranton student-athletes who have been recognized by the MAC for their accomplishments:

Women's Cross Country

  • Eileen Socorso -- Era: 1993-2002 -- Two top-5 finishes at the MAC championships (1996, 1997); two-time NCAA All-Regional (1996, 1997)

  • Joseph Fent -- Era: 1993-2002 -- Four-time MAC champion (1997-2000); Four-time NCAA All-Regional (1997-2000); three-time NCAA championship qualifier (1998-2000); two-time All-American (1998, 2000); two-time Academic All-American (1999, 2000)

  • Sarah Gazdalski -- Era: 1994-2003 -- All-American (1999, 200 backstroke); won 11 MAC individual titles; two-time Eavenson Award winner (1998, 2000; most outstanding swimmer at MAC championships); currently holds school records in the 100 and 200 backstroke

Women's Lacrosse
  • Liz Baumbach -- Era:  1994-2012 -- All-American (2003); MAC Most Valuable Player (2002, 2003), MAC Rookie of the Year (2000), MAC 1st-team selection (2001, 2002, 2003); Royals' all-time leading scorer with 344 total points (251 goals, 93 assists)

  • Maryann Tarantino -- Era:  1912-1988 - Member of two MAC championship teams (1981, 1983) and four teams that advanced to the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW, 1980 & 1981) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA, 1982 & 1983) tournaments.  First-team All-MAC selection (1982) and Royals' all-time leader in home runs (25).
