Library Chooses Innovative Interfaces Inc. for its Integrated Library System
DRA, the Library's current integrated systems vendor, was recently purchased by SIRSI Corporation. Accordingly the Weinberg Library faced a decision: Should it move to SIRSI or should it investigate the various solutions to Library resources management? > Full story
The Center for Teaching and Learning is Launched
The University of Scranton began a new initiative this past year to enhance the teaching and learning of both students and faculty. The Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE), which will offer support services to both faculty and students, is located on the fifth floor of the Harper-McGinnis wing of St. Thomas Hall. > Full story
Author Linda Fairstein to Receive Distinguished Author Award
Linda FairsteinBest-selling crime novelist Linda Fairstein has been named as the recipient of the 2003 Royden B. Davis, S.J. Distinguished Author Award. Ms. Fairstein will be honored at a dinner sponsored by the Friends of the Weinberg Memorial Library at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003. Distinguished Author Award Named in Honor of Royden B. Davis, S.J.
The Friends of the Weinberg Memorial Library at The University of Scranton have announced that their annual Distinguished Author Award has been named in honor of the late Rev. Royden B. Davis, S.J. The Royden B. Davis, S.J. Distinguished Author Award will recognize and honor Father Davis's distinguished service and contributions to the Friends of the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Library, including his service as its first president. > Full story

Special Collections Adds New Features to Web Site
Special collections will be adding two new features to the departmental web site during the course of autumn 2003. A finding aid for the Abe Plotkin collection and a medieval manuscript site will be added in the near future. > Full story
Upcoming Exhibits
The Alumni Publication exhibit will run through the end of September. An exhibit on the History of the University of Scranton will be on display from October 2003 through April 2004.
Patriot Act Provisions Alarm Library World
Public Law 107-56, commonly called the USA Patriot Act, was passed by Congress on October 25, 2001, shortly after and in response to the events of 9/11. This 342-page document, along with the Homeland Security Act, was meant to facilitate the detection and prevent the execution of similar terrorist activities that had produced the World Trade Center tragedy. > Full story
