Graduate Admission Requirements

Welcome to The University of Scranton Office of Graduate Admissions.  Please choose your graduate program below for all necessary program requirements as well as to submit your application on-line. International applicants should also view the International Student Information link for additional requirements for admission. To apply using the Scranton application, each applicant needs to create their own account with their own unique email address. 

Students applying to a campus-based graduate program must submit the following:
  • Graduate Chemistry Programs
      • On-line application
      • Official transcripts from all Colleges or Universities attended
      • Three professional letters of recommendation from individuals who can evaluate your ability to perform graduate work (The request for recommendations can be sent electronically through the on-line application.)
      • Please submit official GRE test scores if your cumulative GPA is below 3.00
  • Graduate Counseling Programs
    • Admission Requirements for Rehabilitation Counseling:

      • On-line application
      • Official transcripts from all Colleges or Universities attended
      • Three professional letters of recommendation from individuals who can evaluate your ability to perform graduate work (The request for recommendations can be sent electronically through the on-line application.)
      • Please submit official GRE test scores if your cumulative GPA is below 3.00
      • Interview with counseling department required
      • Deadline for application submission is March 1st for admission into the following fall term

      Admission Requirements for School Counseling:

      • On-line application
      • Official transcripts from all Colleges or Universities attended
      • Three professional letters of recommendation from individuals that can evaluate your ability to perform graduate work (The request for recommendations can be sent electronically through the on-line application.)
      • Please submit official GRE test scores if your cumulative GPA is below 3.00

      • School Counseling Supplemental Essay Questions (included within the on-line application)
      • Deadline for application submission is March 1st for admission into the following fall term

      Admission Requirements for Clinical Mental Health Counseling:

      • On-line application
      • Official transcripts from all Colleges or Universities attended
      • Three professional letters of recommendation from individuals that can evaluate your ability to perform graduate work (The request for recommendations can be sent electronically through the on-line application.)
      • Please submit official GRE test scores if your cumulative GPA is below 3.00
      • Interview with counseling department required
      • Clinical Mental Health Counseling Supplemental Essay Questions
      • Deadline for application submission is March 1st for admission into the following fall term
  • Graduate Education
      • On-line application
      • Official transcripts from any College or University attended with an undergraduate cumulative GPA of at least 3.00
      • Three letters of recommendation from individuals who can evaluate your ability to perform graduate work (The request for recommendations can be sent electronically through the on-line application.)
      • Copy of valid U.S. teaching certificate for admission into the Reading Education and Special Education programs
  • Graduate Health Administration Program
      • On-line application
      • Official transcripts from all Colleges or Universities attended
      • Three professional letters of recommendation from individuals who can evaluate your ability to perform graduate work (The request for recommendations can be sent electronically through the on-line application.)
      • Please submit official GRE test scores if your cumulative GPA is below 3.00
      • Departmental interview required
      • This program only accepts students to begin in the fall semester.
  • Graduate MBA Program
      • On-line application
      • Official transcripts from all Colleges or Universities attended
      • Three professional letters of recommendation from individuals who can evaluate your ability to perform graduate work (The request for recommendations can be sent electronically through the on-line application.)
      • Please submit official GRE test scores if your cumulative GPA is below 3.00
      • Official GMAT score report.  Students with 3 or more years of official, full-time work experience may be eligible to submit a solution to a case study in lieu of the GMAT.  For additional information, please contact the Office of Graduate Admissions.
  • Graduate Nursing Programs
      • On-line application
      • Official transcripts from all Colleges or Universities attended
      • Three professional letters of recommendation from individuals who can evaluate your ability to perform graduate work (The request for recommendations can be sent electronically through the on-line application.)
      • Please submit official GRE test scores if your cumulative GPA is below 3.00
      • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a NLNAC or CCNE accredited program
      • Licensed Registered Nurse in the state of Pennsylvania; Can be submitted through the online application.
      • Minimum of one year direct clinical nursing practice
      • Satisfactory completion of undergraduate or equivalent approved courses in basic physical assessment and statistics
  • Graduate Nurse Anesthesia Program
      • On-line application
      • Nurse Anesthesia Supplemental Packet
      • Clinical Experience Verification form
      • Official transcripts from all Colleges or Universities
      • Three professional letters of recommendation from individuals who can evaluate your ability to perform graduate work (The request for recommendations can be sent electronically through the on-line application.)
      • Please submit official GRE test scores if your cumulative GPA is below 3.00
      • Statement of intentions
      • Bachelor's degree in nursing from a NLNAC or CCNE accredited program
      • Licensed Registered nurse in the state of Pennsylvania; Can be submitted through the online application.
      • One year of Critical Care nursing experience
      • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification; Can be submitted through the online application
      • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification; Can be submitted through the online application
      • Successful completion of two courses in college chemistry
      • Satisfactory completion of undergraduate or equivalent approved courses in basic physical assessment and statistics
      • We are currently accepting applications for enrollment in the fall term of 2015. The deadline for application submission is October 1, 2014.
  • Graduate Occupational Therapy
      • On-line application
      • Official transcripts from all Colleges or Universities attended
      • Three professional letters of recommendation from individuals who can evaluate your ability to perform graduate work (The request for recommendations can be sent electronically through the on-line application.)
      • Please submit official GRE test scores if your cumulative GPA is below 3.00
      • Bachelor of Science Degree in OT from an occupational therapy program accredited by ACOTE.
      • Must be currently practicing or eligible to practice

       

      • For University of Scranton undergraduate students within the 5-year program, you must complete the on-line application during the spring semester of your senior year. To be eligible to matriculate into the graduate program you must graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences  and maintain an undergraduate cumulative GPA over 2.75.
      • For undergraduate students intending to matriculate in the Summer 2017 term, you must maintain a 3.00 undergraduate cumulative GPA in addition to the admission requirements lsited above.

  • Graduate Software Engineering
      • On-line application
      • Official transcripts from all Colleges or Universities attended
      • Three professional letters of recommendation from individuals who can evaluate your ability to perform graduate work (The request for recommendations can be sent electronically through the on-line application.)
      • Please submit official GRE or GMAT test scores if your cumulative GPA is below 3.00
  • Graduate Theology Program
      • On-line application
      • Official transcripts from all Colleges or Universities attended
      • Three professional letters of recommendation from individuals who can evaluate your ability to perform graduate work (The request for recommendations can be sent electronically through the on-line application.)
      • Please submit official GRE test scores if your cumulative GPA is below 3.00
      • Writing sample; This should be an academic paper of at least 1,000 words in the humanities that explores some theologically related issue. Papers previously submitted in undergraduate classes are suitable. This requirement is completed as part of the online applicaiton process.
  • Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
      • On-line application
      • Official transcripts from all Colleges or Universities attended; Applicants must possess a master's degree in nursing (MSN) from a CCNE or ACEN accredited program with preparation or certification in an advanced nursing practice specialty with a GPA of 3.2 or higher
      • Three professional letters of recommendation from individuals who can evaluate your ability to perform graduate work (The request for recommendations can be sent electronically through the on-line application.)
      • 3-4 page essay describing current and past clinical practice, scholarly career achievements, and the proposed topic for the scholarly project; Essay submitted as part of the online application.
      • RN licensure
      • Evidence of certification in an advanced practice nursing specialty.
      • Application deadline is March 1st for admission into the following fall term. 
  • Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT)
      • The Physical Therapy department at The University of Scranton participates in the Physical Therapist Centralized Application Service, known as PTCAS. To learn more about the PTCAS application process, please visit the PTCAS web site at www.ptcas.org.

      Please submit all application documents through PTCAS.

      • Pre-requisite courses must be completed with a grade of C or better:
        • Biology with labs – 2 courses, 8 credits minimum
        • General Chemistry with labs – 2 courses, 8 credits minimum
        • General Physics with Labs-2 courses, 8 credits minimum
        • Mammalian/Human Physiology – 1 course, 3 credits minimum
        • General Psychology – 1 course, 3 credits minimum
        • Advanced Psychology (Childhood, Adolescence, Aging or Abnormal Psychology) – 1 course, 3 credits minimum
        • Statistics – 1 course, 3 credits minimum
        • Mathematics (Trigonometry or higher) - 1 course, 3 credits minimum
  • Combined/Accelerated Program Requirements
      • The University of Scranton offers outstanding undergraduate students the opportunity to earn both a bachelor's and master's degree through the Combined/Accelerated Baccalaureate/Master's degree program. Qualified students can enter the combined program in Business Administration, Chemistry, and Software Engineering or the accelerated program in Counseling, Education, Health Administration, Human Resources, and Nursing.
