New Director of Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence

Dr. Debra Busacco assumed the position of director of the University of Scranton’s Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) on July 1, 2003. Prior to this position Dr. Busacco was director of the Academic Affairs unit of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) located in Rockville, Maryland. She has held numerous full-time and adjunct positions in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at several universities including Hofstra University, Hunter College, University of Maryland at College Park, Howard University, Towson University and Loyola College. She has received two outstanding faculty awards, one from Hunter College in 1998 and one from Howard University in 2002.

 

Debra holds a PhD, M.Phil., M.S. in Audiology from Columbia University and an A.B. in Special Education from Marywood College. She is active in many higher education associations including the American Association on Higher Education, American Council on Education and the Council of Graduate Schools. More recently she was selected to participate in the 2003 National Leadership Forum for Women sponsored by the American Council on Education. Dr. Busacco has implemented several programs in the area of mentoring students and mentoring new faculty to pursue teaching and research careers. She has 14 peer-reviewed publications and has conducted approximately 50 national workshops, seminars and presentations on a variety of topics related to higher education, especially in the discipline of communication sciences and disorders.
