[MICRO]GRANTS: Women's Cross Country

The University of Scranton women’s cross country team is in the midst of one of the most successful eras in program history. The Royals have finished in the top three in the Landmark Conference in three of the past four seasons, including capturing the conference title in 2009. The team has also had 12 runners earn all-conference honors over the past six seasons.

The Royals traditionally compete in six to eight events each fall, including the Landmark Conference championships and NCAA Mideast Regional. The team has had nine individuals finish in the top 5 at the conference championships, and one runner – Mary Leedy in 1984 – has advanced to the NCAA championships.

With no home course, the Royals compete exclusively on the road. Your gifts help support travel and meal expenses, uniform upgrades, training technology advancements and other improvements to the help the program achieve continued success.

“Alumni support for the women’s cross country team has helped us add many training aids to the daily practice schedule. Most importantly it has allowed us to meet the entry fees for an outdoor track schedule, which aids in our continued success,” said head coach Bill Burke. “Continued support from alumni, fans and friends will help our cross country teams in their quest to achieve consistent success on the local, regional and national levels.”
