Imaging Contest Winners

Congratulations to Alexandra Baty, our 2013 Imaging Contest Winner!

Baty

Alexandra's "Untitled" image of  the center of a gerbera daisy flower was taken with a Nikon Coolpix L1.  In her words: "the subject which bears to me a strong resemblance of an immune cell of the human body with its membrane-bound antibodies."

Alexandra hails from Long Island, NY, and is a member of the class of 2017 majoring in Biochemistry, Cell & Molecular Biology. She is particularly interested in the visual arts, biology, and learning Italian. She began doing photography for fun about four years ago through a digital photography class in high school.  She particularly loves capturing patterns in nature and how mathematics and physics are incorporated in something so seemingly different from science.

Honorable Mention: "Breakthrough"

Our honorable mention goes to Emma Black for her image entitled "Breakthrough"

Black

Emma is a sophomore Communications major.  Her image, captured on a Canon EOS 6D, was taken late afternoon outside Brennan Hall last winter, as the sun was setting.  In her words: "The thorn bush is framed by blurred houses and building that were off in the distance.  Usually the word "thorns" comes with a negative connotation because they are sharp and pointy, but I wanted to show that thorns can look gentle and beautiful in front of a sunset".

We thank all those who participated in this year's contest, and encourage everyone to appreciate and capture the beauty of nature on our campus and in the world around them.
