• Where is The University of Scranton?
  • The University of Scranton is located in northeastern Pennsylvania in the center of the city of Scranton.  The campus is 2 hours from New York City and 2 hours from Philadelphia and is easily accessible by car, bus or air.  The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre International Airport is just a fifteen minute drive from campus.

    The University provides an excellent place to pursue your studies, and is also close to shopping, restaurants, entertainment opportunities and recreational areas.  Sno Mountain is only a 5 minute drive from campus and here you can enjoy skiing and snowboarding during the winter months.  Adjacent to Sno Mountain is a beautiful baseball stadium that is home to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees (the New York Yankees’ AAA team).  The campus is also a short 30 minute drive to the Pocono Mountain recreation areas.

• What activities are available on-campus for international students?
  • The University of Scranton sponsors several programs and organizations for international students. International clubs on campus include the International Students Club, Asia Club, and Saudi Students Club. At the beginning of each fall semester, the University hosts a traditional American barbecue to welcome new students. Every other spring semester the University hosts a large International Student Dinner centered on cultural themes. During the academic year, the International Students Club sponsors bus trips to nearby cities such as New York City, New York; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Washington, DC, with many opportunities for sightseeing, shopping, and entertainment.  The International Club meets frequently on various topics including Language Exchange, holiday parties and the Global Dialog Series.  International students are also invited to participate in the Family Friendship Program.  Faculty and staff of The University of Scranton welcome individual students to our campus by offering hospitality in many ways-dinner at home, tours of the area, shopping, and attending cultural or sporting events.
• What are the application requirements for international students?
  • Graduate Students
    

    International students must submit the following in order to have their graduate application processed:

    • Completed on-line application form
    • Official academic transcripts
    • 3 letters of recommendation
    • Statement of intentions
    • Certificate of finances
    • Proof of English proficiency
    • Applicants to the MBA Program must also submit official GMAT scores. Students with 3 or more years of documented, related work experience may be eligible to complete a case study in lieu of the GMAT. To be eligible, applicants must submit official proof of English proficiency scores of 80 ibt on the TOEFL or overall band 6.5 on the IELTS in addition to their official work experience. • What do you require for proof of English proficiency?
  • Applicants that are from non-English speaking countries are required to submit proof of English proficiency. Some academic programs require a higher proof of English proficiency. This proof can be achieved in a number of ways:
    • Submission of an official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of at least 61 on the Internet-based test or 500 on the paper-based test. These minimum scores may vary depending on the specific graduate program requirements.
    • Submission of an official STEP (Society for Testing English Proficiency) score of at least Pre-1st grade. Some graduate programs may require a 1st grade score. This exam is offered exclusively to Japanese students by the Society for Testing English Proficiency.
    • Submission of an official IELTS (International English Language Testing System) minimum score of Band 6.0. This minimum score can vary depending on the specific graduate program requirement.
    • Attendance at an ELS Language Center with completion of Level 112 with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. This minimum GPA may vary depending on the specific graduate program requirements.
    • Attendance at the English Language Institute at The University of Delaware with completion of Level 6 with grades of B+ or higher.

• What are your application deadlines?
  • Graduate Application Deadlines
    
    • June 1st: Application and all official documents due for admission into the fall term.
    • November 1st: Application and all official documents due for admission into the spring term.
    • March 1st: Application and all official documents due for admission into the summer term.
    • The Master’s of Health Administration only begins in the fall semester/term.
    • Doctorate in Physical Therapy applicants have a deadline of January 31st.
    • Counseling programs applicants have a deadline of March 1st.

• Do you offer conditional admission?

  • We do offer conditional admission pending proof of English proficiency and GMAT scores.  The conditional admission is offered to those applicants that meet our academic requirements for admission as determined by the graduate program director.  Official acceptance is pending all official documentation.

• What is the tuition cost to attend The University of Scranton?

  • Undergraduate tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year is as follows:

    The assured financial support for the first twelve months of undergraduate study at The University of Scranton must be at least $53,345.00 U.S.D. The undergraduate student will then require an additional $53,345.00  (plus inflation) for each additional year of study. Most undergraduates can earn a degree within 4 years.

    Graduate tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year is as follows:

Each additional half year of graduate study should equal $21,097.00 (plus inflation). Students in the MBA program who are not required to take any foundation courses can typically achieve their degree in 1.5 years. Most other master’s degree programs can be completed in 2 or 2.5 years.
