Research Tools - Spring 1997

SOM Grant Received

A generous grant from the Wheat First Butcher Singer Company will allow the Weinberg Memorial Library to subscribe to several new electronic databases and print sources in the field of business data, The School of Management: has subscribed to the print volumes called the Investor's Service from the New York-based Moody's Company for over eight decades. Products such as the Moody's Industrial, Manual and Transportation Manual have offered key information on companies for faculty and students in management, economics and finance, and accounting courses. Now Moody's offers the same data in CD-ROM format, a version that allows searchable fields such as P/E Ratio, subsidiaries, and capitalization. The new package of information also includes the Moody's OTC and Unlisted OTC Manuals, especially important in locating company data on up and coining business firms listed only in these manuals. Additional enhancements to the package include the SEC Edgar-Plus CD-ROM and the new Company Data on CD-ROM. These products will be available at the Reference Desk for use on standalone workstations in the small computer lab on the second floor of the Weinberg Library.

The Library will still subscribe to the networked version of Compact Disclosure, which contains full-text annual reports of all publicly traded companies. This database can be accessed from remote terminals by current U of S faculty, staff or students.

With the Wheat First Butcher Singer grant, researchers seeking company data will find expanded company coverage and ease of access in the Weinberg Library's Reference Collection.
