Melissa Conway, Ph.D., will present a lecture/slide presentation on the Book of Kegs (circa 800 AD), one of the world's most famous illuminated manuscripts, on Sunday, March 9, 2-3 p.m., in the Trophy Room of the Gunster Student Center. Special Collections Librarian Joins Staff
Michael KniesMichael Knies joined the Weinberg Memorial Library faculty librarian staff on Nov. 18.1996, as the new Special Collections Librarian.Michael is originally from Lansford, Pa. He holds a B.A. in Philosophy, a B.A. in Classical Studies and an M.A. in American Studies all from Pennsylvania State University. He earned his Master's in Library Service from Rutgers in 1996. Before coming to the University Michael served for more than eight years as the Collections Manager/Archivist at the National Canal Museum in Easton. > Full story
SOM Grant Received
A generous grant from the Wheat First Butcher Singer Company will allow the Weinberg Memorial Library to subscribe to several new electronic databases and print sources in the field of business data. > Full story
U of S Awarded NEH Challenge Grant
The University of Scranton has been awarded a highly competitive Challenge Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). The NEH promotes knowledge of human history, thought and culture and enhances the role of the humanities. > Full story

For the past two years the University of Scranton librarians have been teaching the library portion of the computer/information literacy program. The focus of this course was a "how-to" lecture on searching the Online Public Catalog. > Full story

Library to Celebrate Scholarship Month
Library Receives First Edition
Brian and Diane Murray have presented the Weinberg Memorial Library with a first edition of Alexander Pope's The Dunciad. The book has been given in honor of the late Louis Mitchell, Ph.D., of the University's English Department. This is the latest of several first editions of Pope's works which the Murrays have generously donated to the Library.
