Information Update - Fall 2008

Information Literacy Grants Announced

Dean Charles Kratz has announced the 2008-2009 Information Literacy Grants for the upcoming academic year. Two faculty members, one from PCPS and one from CAS, have been awarded the annual grants to further cooperation with the Weinberg librarians and embed the ACRL Information Literacy Standards into their course-related library instruction. Dr. Terri Freeman Smith will work with coordinating librarian Bonnie Oldham on a graduate course, HRA503 Human Resource Management. Freeman Smith and Oldham have identified a number of objectives for their project, including identifying scholarly resources and research, navigating appropriate library databases and professional websites, and presenting research in APA format. Dr. Thomas Hogan will work with coordinating librarian Betsey Moylan in his Psychology 355 class entitled Psychological Testing. Undergraduates in this class will identify tools for finding appropriate sources needed to evaluate tests used in various assessment environments, including classroom and clinical settings.

This is the fourth year the stipends have been offered. For the year 2008/2009 they have been raised to $1000. More than ten previous recipients have had positive experiences working with their colleagues in the Library to improve student understanding of valuable research tools and techniques. For additional information about previous winners or to find out if you may be qualified for a future award, please visit the Weinberg Library's website and follow the links under the Information Literacy tab.
