Silver Linker Connects to Full-Text Articles

Many patrons using the Electron Index option from the Weinberg Library's Homepage have navigated the various Silver Platter databases for finding indexing and abstracting to databases in the fields of literature, education, and psychology. MLA, ERIC, CINAHL, and PsychInfo are among the most heavily used databases on the Library's menu. The vendor who produces these databases, Silver Platter, has enhanced the usefulness of their products by introducing a feature called Silver Linker.

When your result list appears on the screen of your PC, you will occasionally notice an icon labeled TEXT. This indicates that the Weinberg Library subscribes to a service that provides the full-text version of the article you see in citation form. By clicking the link, you automatically retrieve the Adobe Acrobat (full image) version of the article. You may then download, print, or e-mail the full-text version for your research. You no longer need to check the Library's holding information to see if we have an online subscription to the journal indicated.

Silver Platter has negotiated agreements with the following publishers to provide links to their subscriptions: Academic Press, Project Muse, Kluwer Academic Publishers, and Springer-Verlag. These prestigious companies focus on scholarly research in a wide range of content areas, thus affording instant access to their journals in the most convenient online format. The links are harvested and updated weekly, so the information is extremely current. Additional options will follow the initial implementation, including links to consortium holdings, ILL, and document delivery services. Please contact the Reference Desk at x4000 if you would like to see a demonstration of this new service.
