Information Update - Fall 2000

Move to TAOS Continues

The Library's move to DRA Taos, a new version of its Data Research Associates library automation system, continues. DRA Web2, our web-based catalog was the first step in the migration; the conversion of our cataloging process is the next. During the summer, the workstations of key administrative staff and staff members of the Cataloging Department were upgraded to the new Windows operating system, Microsoft 2000. The upgrades position staff members to convert from the present character-based cataloging module, NETCAT, to the new graphics-based cataloging application sometime during Spring 2000.

The DRA Taos system will allow us to create our own library automation system reflecting the way our work flows. Because it is based on the most advanced technology available, we will be well positioned as a library of the future. The complete DRA Taos system will incorporate DRA Web2, Cataloging, Circulation, Acquisitions and Serials, and an Interlibrary Loan module. The entire conversion should be completed by 2002.
