Information Update - Fall 2000

PALCI Virtual Union Catalog Coming This Fall

The PALCI (Pennsylvania Academic Library Consortium, Incorporated) Virtual Union Catalog is coming to The University of Scranton sometime this fall. With this online union catalog, patrons may search the catalogs of Bryn Mawr College, California University of Pennsylvania, Carnegie-Mellon University, Clarion University of Pennsylvania, Haverford College, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Kutztown University, Lafayette College, Lehigh University, Millersville University, Penn State, Shippensburg University, Slippery Rock University, St. Joseph's University, Swarthmore College, and the University of Pittsburgh simultaneously. The University of Scranton will join Bucknell University, Dickinson College, Drexel University, Duquesne University, Temple University, Villanova University, and West Chester University in the second tier of implementation.

The University of Scranton students, faculty, and staff will then be able to use the PALCI catalog to request books directly from participating PALCI libraries, check the status of requests, and renew borrowed items. Requested materials will be shipped to the University. A demonstration of the catalog is available at http://mimi.CC.lehigh.edu/LEHI_login.html. Login as Guest and test out the catalog.

Until the implementation of the virtual union catalog, faculty may borrow directly from the 35 participating PALCI libraries. A list of the participants and their policies is available at http://www.lehigh.edu/%7einpalci/onsite.htm. Faculty members should print or obtain an authorization form (http://www.lehigh.edu/~inpalci/onsite_form2.html).

Charles Kratz, Library Director, or any one of the Reference Librarians may sign the authorization form for faculty. For clarification or further information, call (570) 941-4000.
