September 2017 Campus Update

The Middle States Self-Study process is well underway. Under the leadership of the Self-Study Steering Committee and its co-chairs, Rebecca Beal and Julie Schumacher Cohen, the draft Self-study Design is complete. Following an intial drafting period during January and February 2017, the Design was shared shared with members of the University community for comment.

The University received positive feedback to the Design and additional guidance from the University's MSCHE Staff Vice President Liaison, Dr. Ellie Fogarty, during her site visit to the University on March 31. In addition to meeting with representatives of the Board of Trustees Executive Committee, the President, President's Cabinet, University Governance Council, the Steering Committee, and others, the visit included a campus forum for faculty, staff, and students to learn more about the self-study process and Middle States expectations. The final Design was submitted to MSCHE on May 10, and approved on June 19, 2017.

The Design outlines our goals and approach to the self-study process, including its timeline and organizational structure.  In building the Design, the Steering Committee has crafted a series of proposed research questions that we hope will engage our University community in deep discussion about our institutional goals and other issues that are important to us.  Now that the design is approved, the members of the Steering Committee and  Working Groups will conduct research and analysis, gather documentation, and begin drafting reports to describe how we meet Middle States standards, and address our research questions. Drafts of these reports will be ready early in the new year for campus review.

Our goal for this self-study process is not only successful reaffirmation of our Middle States accreditation, but reflection, self-improvement, and ongoing renewal.
