Organic Chemistry Research

Research in the Catino Group at the University of Scranton centers on the development of new methods and reagents for the introduction of boron into organic molecules. Specifically we are interested in finding alternatives to bis(pinacolato) diboron (1) and geminal bis(boronates) such as 2 that are inexpensive and easily prepared.

Additionally, we are interested in the synthesis of molecules that exhibit interesting optoelectronic properties such as tetraarylmethanes and hexaarylethanes. These molecules are challenging to prepare due to the streic demand of the aryl groups surrounding carbon.
