Library Applies For Staff Development Grant

The American Library Association offers a 52,500 grant each year to a library organization to assist in a current or proposed program of staff development. Sponsored by the H.W Wilson Company, the grant provides for funding of speakers, audio-visual aids and handouts. This year the Staff Development Committee of the Weinberg Memorial Library applied for the grant in order to fund a six-part in-house program to help staff members deal with difficult situations in the academic library setting. Topics to be covered in each half-day session include communication, behavioral changes, needs of disabled patrons, security and legal responsibilities, and substance abuse. If the program proves successful, the Committee will offer the workshops to both public and academic libraries in the Pocono Northeast region.

The grant will be awarded to the successful applicant at the annual ALA Conference in Miami this summer.
