Library's Green Team's First Year in Review
If you have been in the library within the past year you undoubtedly have seen many of the Green Team's projects being implemented. The library's Green Team was formed in the fall semester of 2010 to educate students and the community about the importance of sustainability and to promote sustainable practices within the library. > Full story
Library Holds Retreat
The faculty librarians and administrators attended a retreat on May 31 in the DeNaples Center to discuss, evaluate and rewrite the library's tactical plan. The librarians created a vision statement for the library, as well as a revamped mission statement. They also worked on highlighting new goals and objectives for the coming years. > Full story
A Lighthouse in the Bronx Closes its Doors
In a surprise announcement on June 2, 2011, EBSCO Publishing sent out a message to its customers stating that it had acquired H.W. Wilson's databases and print publications. The H.W. Wilson Company, based in the Bronx, N.Y., since 1917, was founded in Minnesota by Halsey W. Wilson. Wilson's first venture was the ""Cumulative Book Index," which sold for $1 when first published in 1898. Wilson placed a 30-foot tall lighthouse resting on a book on top of his Bronx office building as a symbol of his company's mission: "To give guidance to those seeking their way through the maze of books and periodicals, without which they would be lost." Weinberg Memorial Library Awards Inaugural Library Research Prize
Research Prize WinnerRosemary Shaver, a junior in the honors program with a double major in history and political science, was selected as the winner of the first annual Library Research Prize. The Weinberg Memorial Library at The University of Scranton inaugurated the prize to recognize excellence in research projects that show evidence of significant knowledge of the methods of research and the information gathering process, and use of library resources, tools and services. > Full story
