Library Book Sale a Success

Proceeds from the “Friends of the Weinberg Memorial Library Book, Plant and Tag Sale” broke the previous high of $5000 by an additional $2000. The most sought after books included hundreds of complete works in theology, philosophy and religion. Hanging floral baskets were the favorite again this year, and the most unique tag sale items included an oval mirror with a sculptured wood frame, a large seashell adorned tropical Christmas tree, and an oriental rug.
Thanks to the willingness of various newspapers and local radio and TV stations who helped us publicize the weekend event, most supporters of our annual sale were able to plan this fund-raiser into their schedules. The success of the Book & Plant Sale is due to the efforts of the Planning Committee, the Weinberg Library staff, work study students, alumni and “The Friends” volunteers. From January to March, our department made “house calls” to pick up donated books. Over 10,000 bo oks were available for purchase. All books were donated by University faculty, staff and members of the community who generously responded to newspaper requests for donations.
Thanks to the participation and generosity of our University and area communities our fund-raiser made a substantial contribution to the Friends of the Weinberg Memorial Library Endowment Fund.;
