Information Update - Fall 1997

Librarians Give Presentations at Marywood

"Strutting Your Stuff: Marketing Your Library" was the title of a joint Spring Workshop sponsored by the Northeast Bibliographic Center and the Northeast Chapter of the Pennsylvania Library Association and held at Marywood University on June 6, 1997. Several members of the staff of the Weinberg Memorial Library presented practical insights into the library marketing process. Margaret Craft, Assistant Director for Technical Services, spoke on the challenges of starting a Friends of the Library group on campus- Kevin Norris, Coordinator of Database Searching, detailed the editorial production of the "Information Update," the Weinberg Library's newsletter, now in its fifth year of publication. Katie Duke, Coordinator of Bibliographic Instruction, demonstrated how effective, accurate record keeping of classes and contact hours with students can aid in developing support for programs, staff and funding.

Other highlights of the daylong program included a presentation by the Susquehanna County Library Director, Susan Stone, who illustrated how the successful Blueberry Festival in her town has reaped financial benefits for her Library. Jennifer Reel, Public Services Librarian from Marywood University, demonstrated her library's homepage and talked about how good design and up-to-date information are key components.

Over 75 academic, public, and special librarians from Northeastern Pennsylvania attended the workshop.
